Priya and Raman’s Indian Wedding

Sikh ceremony: San Jose Gurdwara
Hindu Ceremony and Reception: Silver Creek Valley Country Club
Bride and Groom: North Indian Hindu-Punjabi Sikh

How did Raman propose?
On our one-year anniversary, he took me to a gorgeous oceanfront restaurant in Dana Point on a beautiful, sunny Southern California day. He got down on one knee and asked for my hand. As soon as he asked I couldn’t resist kneeling down to kiss him (yes, even in front of our parents!)! Then he put the ring on my finger J  Our parents, siblings, and closest friends were there as well – it was perfect.

What advice would you give to future brides?

Why did you select Silver Creek?
I really wanted an outdoor wedding. The golf course for the ceremony was beautiful, surrounded by greenery. And, I loved their ballroom, which has floor-to-ceiling windows.  We got married in the summer, so it was beautiful weather and we wanted to take advantage of that. The view of the mountains and sunset was gorgeous.

The proximity to a Gurdwara was another deciding factor for having the Hindu ceremony & reception at Silver Creek. It’s about a 15 minute drive on surface streets.  We considered doing a “fusion” ceremony but ultimately decided that we wanted to stick to tradition and thus, did two ceremonies.

What’s your beauty advice for a bride?
Pinterest is great for hair and makeup styles. I also looked at popular wedding photographers’ blogs to see other South Asian weddings for inspiration.

Definitely do a makeup trial! If you’re using multiple makeup artists do trials with each of them so that they know exactly what you want and they can write down the color palettes you are using so there’s no miscommunication on the big day.
