Peacock Themed Reception; Divya and Raminda, Sheraton Park at the Anaheim Resort, CA

{About Divya and Raminda}

Divya is Punjabi and Raminda is Sri Lankan. Divya is Hindu and Raminda, Buddhist and they incorporated both cultures/religions into their wedding. For instance Raminda had a baraat and wore a sehra. And they opened their wedding reception with a short Sri Lankan ceremony. They got married at Diamond Bar Golf Course and had the reception at the Sheraton Park at the Anaheim Resort, a lovely Disneyland hotel, very experienced and knowledgeable across all South Asian cultures.

Divya shared some details about their wedding with us.

 {Selecting the Venues}

We must’ve looked at around 15 venues and all types of venues – hotels, resorts, golf clubs and banquet halls. We had a lot of relatives coming from India and Sri Lanka so finding dates that worked for all of them AND were also available at the venue was challenging.

{Sheraton Park at the Anaheim Resort}

The Sheraton Park at the Anaheim Resort in Anaheim, CA, is perfect for South Asian weddings as they have a lot of indoor and outdoor function space.   As I mentioned, we had many guests visiting from India and Sri Lanka, so being walking distance to Disneyland and other fun attractions was something our guests really enjoyed and appreciated. They were flexible and responsive. Our catering manager, Lorraine was a pleasure to work with. We were a little strained for time in planning and she made everything really easy.

The venue met our basic criteria:

{Clothes & Jewelry}

I wore a red and gold lehenga at the ceremony. Following Punjabi tradition I wore chura and kalire as well. Raminda’s sherwani matched and it looked great! For the reception I wore and a turquoise and purple lehenga and Raminda was in a black suit.We got all of the Indian clothes in India and my parents did all the shopping. I was here in the US and at one point I ran out of memory on my phone as my parents sent me hundreds of photos.

{Mehndi+Hair+Makeup}

I got my mehndi, hair, makeup, and draping done by Parul Gandhi from Karishma Beauty Salon. It was convenient having 1 person take care of everything related to my ‘look’.

Mehndi – Rajasthani style. I loved the paisleys on my feet. The mehndi went up to my forearms and a little past my ankles.
Ceremony Hair – updo. My dupatta was covering my head so it was easier to pin in it into the up do as it was pretty heavy.
Reception Hair – down and curled.
Makeup  – I loved my look! I wanted a classic dulhan look.
Bindis – I decided not to wear bindis across my forehead.

ProTip:
 Make sure wherever you’re doing your makeup, there’s a lot of natural light. Lighting can be deceiving and can impact what colors and the amount of makeup coverage.

{Decor}

The ceremony decor colors were red, pink and orange and the reception colors were turquoise and purple as we had a peacock theme. The designs for the mandap, sweetheart stage, and the whole reception were done by Deepti’s Floral Designs and Mandaps. For the ceremony the venue provided the white garden chairs and staging for the mandap. For the reception they provided the tables, votives, china, silverware, and glassware. We could have used their banquet chairs and basic colored linens but we wanted gold chiavari chairs and teal linens.

  1. Hi – just wondering what their guest count was? Our wedding/reception is at the Sheraton Park this November and we were wondering how much of the ballroom we would need to use. From the pictures, it looks like they just used the middle section of the ballroom with air walls on either side, and did not the two side sections?

      1. Hi Samta – yes I did see the 600 total for the full Park/Plaza Ballroom, but I was curious how many people this couple specifically had since they did not use the full ballroom and we are not planning to either. When I saw just the middle half in person, it didn’t look like it would fit 200-250 with a stage and dance floor, so I was wondering if that couple had around the same amount.
