Welcome and Merry Christmas! It’s hard to believe how fast the year has gone by! This year, the US South Asian wedding industry grew to $5B. South Asians represent 1.34% of the total US population, and are the fastest growing ethnic minority.
This year more venues eagerly opened their doors to our weddings, with the understanding of not only what fantastic business they are but also how beautiful they are as well.
We are so excited that the new ShaadiShop website launched about a couple months ago. The site is packed with more venues as they continuously join us, and no one has ever offered more and quality venue info that South Asians need, online. With our venue concierge service we offer personalized guidance to help couples not only find the venue of their dreams and guide them and their families through venue fees, policies and more.
And as always, our service is free.
This holiday season, I’m particularly grateful for the growth ShaadiShop has achieved which would not be possible without the support of you, the community, the couples that were featured on our blog, the hospitality industry and our families and friends.
This year we also witnessed an unprecedented Presidential election that impacts all of us. Last week a dear friend of mine, Sachin H. Jain, the CEO of CareMore Health System, spoke at the LA Chapter of the Indian Medical Association. His comments are relevant for all South Asians:
“The Indian-American agenda–if you can say there is such a thing–should not be one of forced assimilation; nor should it be one of rigid isolation. It must be one of thoughtful engagement.
One of confidence and resolve–in which we stand proud of who we are. And do not apologize for the successes that we have achieved or the contributions that we make. Whether we are Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, we must be committed to taking on ignorance head on. For it is the single common threat that we all face. Because every unchallenged racist comment is not us yielding to political correctness. It is us yielding to ignorance.”
ShaadiShop will continue to be an agent for battling ignorance and bridging gaps that divide, rather than unite. Recently resorts and venues in Newport Beach and Beverly Hills joined ShaadiShop – venues which historically have never allowed outside catering nor were interested in actively marketing to attract ethnic weddings. Now both of those venues have dedicated ethnic wedding sections on their websites.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! May the holidays bring you and your families joy, laughter, cheer!
