Maharashtrian Wedding Mundavalya

The mundavalya is work by brides and grooms during a Maharashtrian wedding. The bride’s mundavalya is tied onto her forehead just before she enters the mandap, signifying that she’s ready to get married. This headress represents unity between the couple and it’s customary during the ceremony for them to touch foreheads illustrating that unity as well.

This jewelry is usually made out of pearls and worn across the forehead with two strands extending from the forehead to the shoulders.
