This is a beloved tradition celebrated at some Indian weddings. As a vast country with 22 official languages there’s no tradition that applies to everyone. I’ve seen this one celebrated in North India, Punjab, and Gujarat where after the vidai, the bride’s friends and cousins stop the couple by standing in front of their car – rendering them unable to drive off.
This is a short tradition in which the couple is not allowed to proceed without showering these lovelies with more gifts. These girls are now viewed as the groom’s new sisters and what would life be without giving their new brother a bit of a hard time?
