Ravi and Todd celebrated a rustic fusion Indian wedding at Over the Vines, a barn, on a vineyard, in Wisconsin. The celebrations were held on a beautiful, bright sunny day prior to the US Supreme Court’s groundbreaking ruling last June, on Obergefell v. Hodges, declaring state-level bans on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.
Both grooms got their mehndi done and they served a favorite at dessert too – mehndi designed cookies and other sweet treats! All of this and more was beautifully captured by Ueda Photography.
Ravi and Todd both wore handsome traditional sherwanis, jootis and pagadis. And they weren’t the only ones decked out in desi clothes. From the live singers to the little flower boy and girl – Todd’s side embraced the colorfully hued threads that are one aspect that make South Asian weddings so vibrant! And, whereas many multi-ethnic couples have two wedding ceremonies, Todd and Ravi fused their respective traditions together. A lantern representing the fire and ever-important observer or witness, of a Hindu wedding was hung at the wedding arch where they exchanged vows, rings and were married! The fusing of two cultures permeated in the cuisine too as they served spicy fare but instead of Indian, it was Caribbean cuisine for their guests from all over the world to enjoy.
