Meshing Two Cultures Together

{Telegu-North Indian Wedding}

I’m Telegu and my husband is North Indian. At our wedding, we invited 2 panditji’s (1 Telegu, 1 North Indian) to officiate our union, as incorporating our respective traditions was very important.

Growing up in the USA, South Asians intermingle across communities and religions. This is particularly true for the first generation of Indian-Americans that were born here. As a result, there are a lot of Punjabis marrying Gujaratis, North Indian-South Indian weddings etc. This first generation has embraced our similarities and differences, respecting  and celebrating our vast South Asian sub-cultures.

#MyIndianAmericanLife is a collaboration with 3 Curious Monkeys on sharing sweet stories that shape the South Asian diaspora in the US.
