Sheela + Nikhil’s Maharashtrian Wedding, San Jose, CA

{Sheela + Nikhil}

Sheela and Nikhil had a Maharashtrian, Hindu wedding at the Fairmont San Jose, CA.  Join us as Sheela shares her wedding details with us!

{Venues}

Our sangeet/mehndi night was held at the GlassHouse San Josewhich we found through ShaadiShop. We wanted the venue to be somewhere within walking distance of the wedding venue so our guests wouldn’t have to worry about transportation. We’d never heard of it and the location couldn’t have more perfect. They were already so well versed in South Asian weddings, and were receptive to our needs and changes along the way.

After looking at 5 or 6 venues we decided to have our wedding and reception at the Fairmont San Jose. Both of our sisters had also gotten married at the Fairmont so we felt very comfortable working with them. We also wanted somewhere close and convenient for our guests in the Bay Area. The Fairmont is a pleasure to work with. Their staff is very knowledgeable in South Asian weddings. They have done a lot of baraats, so they knew exactly how to set it up for Nikhil and his family and guests. It all came together very seamlessly.

{Decor}

The GlassHouse is contemporary and modern, so we worked with the space by having very bright and flashy decor and kept flowers to a minimum.

We spent around  6 hours total  planning the decor from across the country. We were pretty low maintenance on it and were able to make some quick decisions with our coordinator and decorator.

{Clothes + Mehndi}

Colors – Orange and red; per Maharashrian tradition, brides wear a yellow or marigold sari with green or orange borders.

Style – Traditional; we went with very traditional Marathi jewelry and clothing for the ceremony (including my nine-yard paithani nauvari saree)

Inspiration – Left it up to the makeup artist

Mehndi – Rajasthani style

Bridal Party: We went shopping in Mumbai and bought all the outfits in one day. It helped to have everyone’s measurements before we went shopping. My bridal party wasn’t picky either so it was easy to pick out the clothes.

{Testimonials}

We were in the middle of a cross country move, and were dreading having to search for Sangeet venues that met all of our needs; we were worried the process would take forever and would require a lot of in person visits and negotiation. Samta and ShaadiShop made it so easy to get a quick, detailed view of everything we needed and helped us find the perfect location in no time at all. The whole process was so efficient, we only wish we had found out about ShaadiShop sooner.

Jalsa Catering was fantastic- since good food was a huge priority for us, we really wanted to make sure the menu was creative, had some good variety, and was delicious. Jalsa delivered on all counts!

 Moh from Prime Party Rentals is hilarious and ridiculously talented. We loved working with him!

DJ Salim is such a professional, super easy to work with and very responsive.

Our family has used Artistry by Christal for multiple events in the past few years, and she is a miracle worker. She not only made us all look and feel beautiful, she listens and keeps everyone calm the day of. I didn’t even need to do a trial with her because I trust her judgement completely.

 Just like Christal, our family has worked with Vijay multiple times now and he is fantastic. The whole team at Wedding Documentary is reliable, professional, and their work is absolutely stunning. We couldn’t have been more thrilled with how the photos and films turned out.

Charu Prakash and Kavita Ahuja at Save the Date With Us were wonderful as our day-of planners.

Monica from Emkay Diamonds is the best in the business! She has incredible taste and is very thoughtful and patient. We loved working with her!
