One thing that bothers me when I attend weddings is the bottleneck that’s created when the ballroom doors open. I still see some couples make escort cards available only after cocktail hour as guests make their way to the ballroom for the reception. The accepted best practice is to have them out during cocktail hour.
One way to avoid the bottleneck is to text message the table numbers to each guest. That’s what I did at my wedding. We still made escort cards (and had them out during cocktail hour) as a back up. But about 60% of the traffic swiftly moved inside the room because they already knew where to go.
They didn’t have to stop to pick up the card, double check it or find someone to help them if they lost it.
