Power Outage at an Indian Wedding and How the Venue Handled It Beautifully

I was attending a ShaadiShop wedding in Southern California and during the break after lunch and before cocktail hour there was a city-wide power outage.

In a way we got lucky that the outage happened after the ceremony and after lunch was served. Most guests were back in their hotel rooms relaxing when the outage occurred.

It was a scorching hot summer day. And the venue team immediately sprang into action:

  1. delivered water bottles door-to-door
  2. setup complimentary snacks and food in the lobby lounge
  3. setup the bride with a room with generator power where she could get ready for the reception
  4. throughout the outage managers and staff knocked on doors checking on people  and seeing if they needed anything.

This was a 5-star resort so I wasn’t surprised by the service but I was impressed. Especially when they knocked on my door to give us bottled water. My sister and I were hanging out in my room and she was 8 months pregnant at the time. Upon seeing her, instead of handing us 1 or 2 bottles she literally handed us the entire case. She was an older lady, like an aunty, and she lovingly said to my sister, “drink it, you need to stay hydrated!”

The outage lasted about 3 hours and throughout, they made resort-wide announcements to keep guests informed about the situation.

Thankfully power was restored in time for the cocktail hour and reception. And it all went beautifully.

{Take Aways}

Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that no one can control. What set this venue apart was the way they dealt with the situation swiftly and treated their guests with care and personalized attention.

It was like the venue took responsibility for the outage even though it wasn’t their fault. It was very impressive.

“We just booked a full Indian wedding through ShaadiShop at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort. In addition to the business, we appreciate the exposure ShaadiShop creates about our venue, as the couple didn’t know about our resort until ShaadiShop told them about us. Additionally, we appreciate the pre-qualification work that ShaadiShop does to match couples and venues that are a good fit for each other. We had all the info needed to conduct the initial meeting. What a great service for venues to market to the South Asian community!” Angie Florence, Catering Manager at The Waterfront Beach Resort, Huntington Beach, CA
